Day 2.💃

Hellooooo everyone! Our seond day of practice was in Kalyan Minaret. And our coursemates Sabina😍 and Gulnoza😍 told about very necessary information for us.

Kalyan Minaret.🌟💫

Kalyan Minaret is one of the tallest buildings in Bukhara, its height is 46.5 m, and a fundamental part of all its leaves to a depth of 10 m with a diameter at the base of 9 m. Kalyan Minaret is located in eastern part of Bukhara and the history of its construction referred to the XI century. This monument originally served for the purpose of call for Muslim prayers. However later, this high minaret became an observation post, from which followed the appearance of the enemy and also served as a kind of beacon for trade caravans.

Kalyan Minaret means a Big Tower, but it has another name - the Tower of Death, because in the Middle Ages criminals were thrown off the top of the minaret.

Miri arab Madrasah.🌟✨

Construction of the Miri-Arab madrasah dates back to the 16th century and is related to the sheikh Abdallah Yamani (from Yemen), the spiritual pir (guide) of sheybanids. The exact date of the beginning of the construction is still unknown. According to one version, scientists believe that the building was erected in the period of 1530-1535/1536. The other version states, that the madrasah was built to celebrate the victory of the sheybanid army over the troops of the Sefevid shah Ismail I in the battle of Gijduvan in 1512. It is also supposed that the final construction works were carried out on the funds of Ubaydulla-khan; the money received from the sale of 3000 captive Iranians to slavery.

Traditional national architecture is peculiar to this building – a square yard, surrounded with two floors of cells, two big domed halls in the left and right corners. There are two-store loggias adjoining the main façade in the center highlighted with a portal. The inner yard is adorned with composed carved mosaic. In the center of the madrassah, there is a shrine of Ubaydulla – emir of Bukhara, who had ruled the city in the period of 1533-1540. In the head of the building, you will see a burial place of the spiritual guide of the khan – Miri Arab (sheikh Abdallah Yamani), in whose honor the building got its name. The senior teacher of Ubaydulla – MukhammadKasimwas also buried there.

Poi-Kalyan Ensemble in Bukhara, which has an inimitable silhouette, is located on the front square Registan and it is the nodal architectural complex of the town. Poi-Kalyan is translated as “pedestal of the great”, and it is implied, that the square with the ensemble lies at the foot of Big Bukhara minaret – Kalyan. The buildings of Poi-Kalyan Ensemble were established in various times, but despite the all, the complex Poi-Kalyan looks perfectly and harmoniously; and serves as one of the best models of the Persian architecture.
